A date facet gives each card a start and an end instead of a list of options. Put one on an axis and that axis becomes a timeline: cards render as span bars, automatically packed into sub-lanes so nothing overlaps, in either orientation. The other axis carries on being whatever facet you chose — owner, team, workstream — so you get a timeline grouped by something meaningful rather than a flat list of bars.

A date facet has two slots

Start and end. Fill one and the card is a point in time; fill both and it is a span. Turning ranges off is non-destructive — the second date is kept, not deleted, so you can turn them back on and find your data where you left it.

From days to years, without changing the data

The axis buckets by day, week, month, quarter or year, and you change between them as a personal view setting. The dates on the cards never change; only the resolution you are reading them at does.

Spans that never overlap

When several cards cover the same period they are packed into sub-lanes automatically, so a busy month reads as stacked bars rather than a pile. Cards on a date axis are not draggable — a date is a value you set, not a position you nudge.
